The Beachfront Belly Dance Frolic is a “seriously fun” mini-workshop and maxi-dance party held oceanfront in Nags Head, NC, on Columbus Day weekend . The event is hosted by Chelydra, a student of Middle Eastern dance since 1978 who specializes in folk dances of North Africa and the Middle East, along with modern folkloric fusion adaptations (including tap-dancing melaya leff, hip-hop khaleegy, and techno ghawazee) .
For the 2026 mini-workshop, Chelydra will present Folkloric Fusion – a high-energy mash-up of Afro-Brazilian samba, Persian Bandari, Russian Romany, and more, set to an interpretation of Feliz Navidad. Participants are encouraged to bring a full skirt for “floofing, flicking, flourishing and flouncing” .
The afternoon maxi-dance party invites attendees to perform their latest choreography and costumes in an experimental, playful environment. Time limit for performances is seven minutes
